Care Center Update
June 1 2009:
At this moment OFI is caring for over 350 baby orphan orangutans at our purpose built, one of a kind, care center in Indonesia. In the last month we have had several baby Orangutans arrive that had been shot with a shotgun. We have to remove the pellets as they are made of lead and that surgery does not come cheap. Apart from that the needs of these babies are great, food, medicine and personal attention. Every baby that arrives at the center must be assigned a human 'Mother' to care for them for up to 7 years. We must pay that person for those 7 years just to raise that baby until it is old enough to be released back into the wild, so you can imagine the costs involved. Everyone we hire is a local, so your contribution also helps to maintain a local family!
Your contribution will make a big difference to them and all ofthe wildlife in the forest:
$ 30 helps to buy food and care for one orangutan at the care center for one month
$ 130 pays the salary for one orangutan care taker for a month.
$255 pays for one local veterinarian for one month.
$ 505 purchases an approximately 25 acres of land for the park extension.
$ 1000 helps to pay medical supplies, laboratory tests, dental care, x-rays and emergency surgeries done for a month at the care center.
$ 7,000 builds a new guard post in a vulnerable area of the park.
