Elephant at the Threshold.
This incredible mosaic was inspired by the origin mosaic from the peristyle in the House of the Laberii at Uthina (present-day Oudhna).
It was part of a large panel that included a stallion and a bear and was placed in front of the main room’s threshold. This principle room led to more than thirty other rooms, but first this threshold had to be crossed.
I chose this elephant because of the eye – the fierceness and the sadness in the eye moved me. Considering what the elephants are trying to tell us today, I wanted in some way to honor this great being.
